#20 podcast – Adaptogens

So what are adaptogens….

Basically adaptogens refers to non specific herbs that can enhance human body.

According to the primary definition that was set in 1940. They need to meet three criteria.

1.

adaptogens must be non specific and must assist the human body in resisting a wide range of conditions, including physical, chemical or biological stress

2.

adaptogens must maintain homeostasis in humans. that means these herbs can offset or resist physical disorders caused by external stress.

3

adaptogens must not harm the normal functions of the body

In 1969 newly defined criteria was introduced. according to this definition

adaptogens

1 must reduce the harm caused by stressed states, such as fatigue, infection and depression

2. must have positive excitatory effects on the human body

3 must not cause side effect such as insommia, low protein synthesis or excessive energy consumption

4. must not harm the human body

We now have three catagories of adaptogens, including primary, secondary adaptogens and adaptogen companions .

In this episode we talk further about

what these three catagories of adaptogens are
