Autophagy is a natural process in which the body cells clean out misfolded proteins, damaged organelles, and pathogens are degraded and removed from cells.
Sometimes, autophagy destroys and removes some of these molecules and parts. Other times, the cell can recycle these parts into new components.
Even now there are many things that are not clear about autophagy. It is not easy to measure in humans. We just don’t know much.
Humans traditionally lived in a different way. We never had so much food around us and experienced energy deficits on a regular basis. It is when autophagy happens.
As the process of autophagy begins, a structure (or autophagosome) starts to form. Once fully enclosed, the autophagosome fuses with a lysosome—an organelle containing enzymes that can degrade and destroy molecules. The fusion of both organelles creates an autolysosome, where the degradation of cellular parts occurs. Other parts are recycled and reused for cellular repair.
Misregulation of autophagy can result in a variety of pathological conditions including cancer, diabetic conditions, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s diseases. Furthermore, autophagy is not only responsible for the clearance of abnormal proteins and organelles, but also participates in the removal of infectious agents, including bacteria and viruses from host cells.
Now an average person in this society rarely has a chance to trigger autophagy. We have forgotten what it’s like to be truly hungry.
Knowing what we do here are 4 ways to induce autophagy. Autophagy is increased in response to stress, and the enzyme AMPK is turned on.
1)FAST
It is the quickest and most reliable way to induce autophagy. Though we don’t have a specific number of hours we have to fast before we start the process of autophagy it is said to be between 18 hours to 3 days.
Water only or dry fasting (which I don’t recommend people do without a medical practitioner) is the best but fast mimicking diet which our 5-day Advanced reset is based on can also trigger autophagy while eating a specific amount of food
2) REGULAR TRAINING
The biggest effects are seen with long-term training
3) HIGH-INTENSITY TRAINING
High-intensity training can induce autophagy more than low impact
4) EAT AUTOPHAGY-INDUCING FOODS
Polyphenols in certain plants may play a role in inducing autophagy. A list includes Green tea, Coffee, Resveratrol (grape skin), Turmeric, Ginger, Olive oil, Gynostemma, Cacao, Reishi, Chaga, Cinnamon, Mulberry leaf, Pomegranate, MCT oil, citrus,
5) SLEEP
Sleep is important for many things. It is now said that it can also promote autophagy, especially in a deep sleep state.
Research shows that not getting enough sleep, and waking up intermittently throughout the night, negatively alters autophagy in the brain cells.
6) HOT AND COLD
Both heat and cold stress can stimulate the autophagic process. It is also found that switching back and forth between cold and hot can induce autophagy
