Schisandra Berries

Schisandra berries in Chinese is Wu Wei Zi, which means five flavoured berry because of it has all the five flavours, sweet, sour salty, bitter and pungent. The flavours are said to be associated with different organs in the body and having all the flavours in this one berry it can positively affect the whole body system.

As Grand Materia Medica says “sourness and saltiness enter the Liver and tonify the kidneys, acridity and bitterness enter the Heart and tonify the lungs, and sweetness enters the middle palace and augments the spleen and stomach.”

Schisandra is known to have an ability to strenthen and protect the liver, helping the detoxification process . Dozens of studies have proven the potency of schisdanra including healting fatty liver disease. It has shown to decrease liver enzymes, increase cytochrome P450 activity and accelerating the prolification of hepatocytes, which is instrumental for liver repair and regeneration.
