Spirulina recognised as being among the world’s most popular supplements. It is loaded with various nutrients and antioxidants that may benefit your body and brain.
Spirulina is a type of non-toxic blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) it is often used as a vegan source of protein and iron and is rich in a variety of other nutrients and phytochemicals. It has up to 65 per cent protein and other nutrients including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, carotenoids, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium and gamma linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid.
Spirulina is also high in chlorophyll. Some research suggests that spirulina may be helpful in combating allergies and allergic reactions. Spirulina’s phosphorus content makes it helpful as part of a tooth remineralisation regimen.
Emerging evidence suggests that it binds with radioactive isotopes and may be useful for radioactivity exposure or radiation therapy.
The protein in Spirulina is highly usable and has a net protein utilisation rate of between 50-61%. Spirulina can bind with heavy metals in the body and help remove them.
Spirulina promotes health in many ways. It can protect from oxidative stress, support the immune system and is anti-inflammatory. Because it does not have the hard cellulose membranes characteristic of plant cells, nor does it have a well-defined nucleus spirulina is considered to be highly digestible in comparison with other algae such as chlorella.
Over 200 scientific studies have been done showing potential health benefits of Spirulina
We offer two types of Spirulina.
Deep Ocean spirulina is purely cultivated in deep ocean water in Okinawa. The algae is allowed to grow 3 to 5 times as much as the basic type of spirulina, with an abundant nutrient and much more vibrant.
Deep Ocean is classified as a part of ocean that has a depth more than 200m. It is out of reach of the sun and has a low water temperature. Deep ocean water is clean, rich in minerals and well ripened because it continues to circulate without ever coming into contact with the atmosphere for about 2000 years.
Deep ocean water where we source our spirulina is pumped from the deepest place in Japan at a depth of 612m.
