Triphala vs. Amla: What’s the Difference?

Amla is one of the three fruits that make up Triphala, so there’s real overlap, but they’re not interchangeable. Amla alone is prized mainly for its vitamin C and antioxidant content, and is milder in taste and effect. Triphala combines Amla with Haritaki and Bibhitaki, creating a more complex formula traditionally aimed specifically at digestive health, gentle detoxification, and balancing all three doshas together. If digestion and regularity are your main focus, Triphala is the more targeted choice; if you want Amla’s rejuvenating, vitamin-C-rich properties without the stronger laxative effect, Amla on its own may suit you better.
