DIY Natural Toothpaste & Tooth Powder – Featuring Pearl Powder

A clean, effective way to care for your teeth, without fillers or harsh chemicals.

Why Make Your Own Toothpaste?

Most commercial toothpastes are packed with synthetic foaming agents, preservatives, and even abrasive whiteners that can disrupt your oral microbiome or damage enamel over time.
Making your own allows you to choose ingredients that support long-term oral health, not just surface-level freshness.

And at the centre of it all is our hero ingredient: pearl powder.

Pearl: The Star of Your Oral Ritual

Pearl powder is much more than a beauty supplement. It’s rich in bioavailable calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and trace minerals, making it a powerful ally for remineralising teeth and supporting gum health.

Used traditionally in Chinese and Japanese medicine both internally and externally, pearl offers deep nourishment for the teeth and oral tissues.

Pearl powder helps to:

  • Strengthen tooth enamel
  • Support the natural remineralisation process
  • Calm inflammation and irritation in the gums
  • Brighten teeth gently, without abrasion
  • Promote regeneration of soft tissue in the mouth
  • Alkalise and rebalance the oral environment

Whether in toothpaste or powder form, it brings grounding and renewal to your daily brushing ritual.

DIY Natural Toothpaste Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup coconut oil – antibacterial, supports gum health
  • 2 tbsp baking soda – mildly abrasive, deodorising
  • 2 tbsp bentonite clay – detoxifying, alkalising, mineral-rich
  • 1 tbsp pearl powder – for remineralisation and gum repair
  • 20 drops peppermint essential oil (or clove oil)
  • Optional: pinch of xylitol or stevia (safe sweeteners that won’t feed bacteria)

⚠️ Note: Baking soda is not recommended if you have metal braces, as it may corrode metal over time.

Instructions

  1. Slightly soften or melt coconut oil.
  2. Mix in baking soda, bentonite clay, and pearl powder until smooth.
  3. Add essential oil and optional sweetener. Mix well.
  4. Store in a clean, sealed glass jar. Use a clean spoon or spatula to scoop.

DIY Mineral Tooth Powder (Oil-Free)

Prefer a dry brushing option or something travel-friendly? This tooth powder is shelf-stable, easy to make, and deeply mineralising.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 4 tbsp calcium carbonate – helps rebuild enamel
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp pearl powder – to nourish, soothe, and strengthen
  • Optional:
    • 1–2 tsp clove, cinnamon, or mint powder
    • 10–15 drops essential oil (peppermint, clove, spearmint, myrrh)
    • ½–1 tsp activated charcoal (try our Cosmic Hemp Charcoal) (for occasional use only as it can be too abrasive for daily brushing)

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a glass jar or bowl.
  2. Store in an airtight container.
  3. Use a dry toothbrush or spoon to apply a small amount before brushing.

Keep the powder dry to prevent contamination and clumping.
